I Wish My MP Had Dual-Citizenship Too!

So the guvament won another buy-election, big deal. It was very clear with the flurry of activity in improving the constituency that the fix was in. And they were quite arrogant with it too, declaring that the PNP bad mind because they didn’t want the people of the constituency to get anything done for them.

But their arrogance led to a bit of stupidity also, putting the name of their candidate on brand new garbage skiffs (where they even spelled his name wrong, Gergory), to show that it was thru him that these things were done.

So a few things to take away from this:

  1. The guvament in power will go to any lengths, including using state money, to shore up their advantage.
  2. All talk of Jamaicans becoming politically mature is premature, as last night’s buy-election barely managed to get half the electorate to vote.
  3. Political maturity is further scorned when voters are so licky-licky. Granted they needed the amenities very badly, and were probably showing their gratitude, but to think that elections are won in this way is disgraceful.
  4. The PNP, despite pursuing the dual-citizenship cases in the courts, are like headless chickens when the buy-elections are announced; scrambling for candidates and then having a lackluster campaign behind said candidate, notwithstanding their lack of access to state funds like the JLP has  they put no effort in even trying to win the damned things.
  5. I want the PNP to continue fighting these cases in court, because those with dual-citizenship are illegally occupying their seats as Members of Parliament, but if they are not going to give a good account of themselves then they are simply furthering the waste of the country’s money, money that the guvament says they do not have. (except for the hundreds of millions of Us dollars they are going to pump into Air Jamaica.)

I used to think that we deserve better than this but the licky-licky-ness of the electorate and the lackadaisical approach to campaigning of the opposition is changing my opinion.

sigh…

Then Do That Bruce!

sceptre_orb_crown

If you are going to request that the opposition leader and you come to some agreement to avoid the fallout from continued questions on dual citizenship, fine!

But to then make the veiled threat that you and your JLP cronies can move to amend the constitution and that you have the numbers to do it, shows not only your disdain for the laws of this land but the disrespect you show to the opposition and law-abiding Jamaicans.

If you can do that, then go right ahead and do it King Bruce!

Your will can be made law.

Save us, the people of Jamaica, from wasting our time in believing we had any say what-so-ever.

But when you do that, just remember that you wouldn’t then need a Governor General, elections or the trust of the people.

You can make your own laws as you go along.

Fassy!

The Buy-Election Is Over

money

After a well purchased victory, Vaz will now go back to parliament and his post as minister.

Nothing changes.

Bruce shows his disdain for the constitution once again about griping that the PNP was trying to “Constitutionally overthrow the government”.

If the constitution says you ought not be the guvament then you should get your ass out of there.

Until the constitution is changed, and as long as you are of the mind to obey the laws of the land, then you should do as the constitution demands.

When in opposition these same people harangued the then Prime Minister, P.J. Patterson, when he remarked: “The law is not a shackle”.

The JLP let him have it.

Mutty let him have it.

All JLP supporters let him have it.

Openly mocking and deriding him for his words, totally missing the nuance of his meaning.

Now, the JLP are gleefully living by Patterson’s words, and sparing no vehemence for being called on it.

The Law Isn’t A Shackle

hands-in-shackles

So the JLP got their way in the Dabdoub/Vaz affair.

Don’t let them fool you into thinking that it wasn’t for their benefit, this is exactly the outcome they were looking for, because the law was broken in their favour.

The constitution of Jamaica states that no one with allegiance to a foreign power may be eligible to run for or hold office. Vaz, therefore, was legally, not a candidate.

Disqualified!

Therefore since the JLP had no legitimate candidate to challenge Mr. Dabdoub then the seat should have gone to Mr. Dabdoub.

I wonder, with all the threats of a snap election if Dabdoub was awarded the seat as the constitution demanded, did the sure-to-occur political upheaval sway the judges opinion in the matter?

And also, were the JLP aware of the outcome of the ruling ahead of time, as their readiness to contest the by-election infers?

Wouldn’t be surprising, they have cronies everywhere.

Shahine Robinson, St. Ann MP, is another person who will not allow her self to be shackled by the law.

Painting public government property in party colours is a no-no.

Simple.

Government property is for the people of Jamaica, and not any one party. As much as it was troubling to see the previous guvament put the names of their friends all over bridges and roads and squares, so too is it troubling to see MPs flouting the law and branding public property in the colors of their party. It is something they would not have stood for and therefore is something they themselves should not do.

But they have the power….

Constitution…again…

Danville Walks!

Great!

Until the constitution of this land is ammended, they must be adhered to. Calling it stupid, backward and outdated helps nothing. If you want change then engage your members of parliament and representatives. Stop sniping from the gutter like rats!

That being said, I still maintain that anyone seeking to hold public office in Jamaica MUST have only a Jamaican passport and no allegiance to any other country.

What the F@#$!!

Look, if the constitution says the man cannot keep the seat then he cannot keep the seat. If his dual citizenship is proven after the election then he should have done the honorable thing and move his backside out of the seat.

Now I hear jackasses calling for a change in the constitution, that it is a stupid law, blah blah blah.
It’s always stupid when it doesn’t work for you, but when it does you are quite allright.

Let all JLP & PNP Members of Parliament and for that matter anyone holding or wanting to hold public office, disavow themselves of all foreign allegiances, NOW! And if you currently hold a seat or office, Move you rass outta it!

No surprise that some are calling for a change in the constitution, Bruce has in the past clearly shown his disdain for the constitution of this land, but dressed his views up in modernization talk to make it more palatable. I am all for ammendments to the constitution, but no dual citizens should ever be able to run for office, ever, and until it’s changed, it must be adhered to.

P.S. Where does the Judge’s loyalty lie? with the people and the constitution of the country or was her decision colored by her close ties to the JLP?

Of pottery and subsidy.

If the constitution says that no one holding or swearing allegiance to a foreign power can take a seat as a representative in the House of Parliament then his ass should go. His ass should not have even been up for consideration. While I am at it, no foreign born person should ever be able to be Prome Minister of this country. I hope al those holding dual citizenship get kicked out of parliament and by elections, with true Jamaicans, are held to correct this mistake.

mmmm, tasty!

Why does it feel as if that five hundred million dollar subsidy on basic food items was just given to their corporate friends. Prices on basic items did not remain stable in the period of the subsidy, and now it is set to jump yet again.
The best thing any guvament can do is reduce GCT to 10%.
Why?
How many of the items you purchase in the supermarket are tax exempt? How many of the items on your bill are listed with a ‘T’ beside it? And really? does no one think 16.5% is excessive? Anyone?

Maybe the subsidy was to pay off the people who contributed to the current guvament’s campaign, and also to pander to the people, “see? we care, we subsidize it for you.”
NOT!
