Partyin’

Peter challenge Portia, party mash up!

Rubbish!

If Peter challenging Portia means the party a go mash up, then maybe it needs to be mashed up. Clearly there are factions in the party who don’t see Portia as an effective leader, especially coming off the high of her ascendency to the Prime Minister’s office, to the crash at the polls. They saw how easy it was to make her look bad. REALLY BAD. Add to that her seeming inability to brush those attacks aside and make herself more viable in the eyes of the electorate, no wonder there are concerns that she can’t win it for them.

How i see it. If Peter wins then there is a legitimate concern by party delegates of Portia’s ability to lead. If Portia wins, then it wipes away the concerns in the eyes of the greater public, of her electability.

And if the party is going to dissolve because the leader is challenged, then let it. The JLP for years, from loss to loss in the general elections did not challenge Seaga, and continued to lose. Then when his base in the party was challenged by the introduction of new blood and his subsequent retirement led to the ascension of Bruce to party leader.

And we know how dat turn out.

Constitution…again…

Danville Walks!

Great!

Until the constitution of this land is ammended, they must be adhered to. Calling it stupid, backward and outdated helps nothing. If you want change then engage your members of parliament and representatives. Stop sniping from the gutter like rats!

That being said, I still maintain that anyone seeking to hold public office in Jamaica MUST have only a Jamaican passport and no allegiance to any other country.

What the F@#$!!

Look, if the constitution says the man cannot keep the seat then he cannot keep the seat. If his dual citizenship is proven after the election then he should have done the honorable thing and move his backside out of the seat.

Now I hear jackasses calling for a change in the constitution, that it is a stupid law, blah blah blah.
It’s always stupid when it doesn’t work for you, but when it does you are quite allright.

Let all JLP & PNP Members of Parliament and for that matter anyone holding or wanting to hold public office, disavow themselves of all foreign allegiances, NOW! And if you currently hold a seat or office, Move you rass outta it!

No surprise that some are calling for a change in the constitution, Bruce has in the past clearly shown his disdain for the constitution of this land, but dressed his views up in modernization talk to make it more palatable. I am all for ammendments to the constitution, but no dual citizens should ever be able to run for office, ever, and until it’s changed, it must be adhered to.

P.S. Where does the Judge’s loyalty lie? with the people and the constitution of the country or was her decision colored by her close ties to the JLP?

Too much damn shuffling.

Pure mix-up an\' blenda!

For years now the taxpayers of Jamaica have had to pay the cost for what amounts to the whim of the Prime Minister an/or government. Everytime there is a shuffling of the cabinet or change of government, they go about reordering the structure of government. Not by moving the ministers around, no, they move everything and every body else around.

Here is a general list of what happens in a reshuffle:

1. Rent new expensive office space.
2. Pay to partition the office space into offices and cubicles.
3. Pay to move staff furniture, computers and other quipment to the new office space.
4. Pay for new servers, cabling and PBX (phone) and internet service.
5. Discard all old stationery and other items that bear the name of the old ministry, to now pay to have them all replaced with the name of the new ministry on them.

In addition to all that money (that the country can ill afford to waste like this), this movement of people and equipment results in lost productivity, not for days or weeks but months. It has been more than seven months now since the General Elections and still the reshuffling has not been settled in terms of staff being able to do their work. Time is money after all and lost time is lost money.

To fix this, (though it will need a reshuffle, but a final one) would be to set the portfolios of each ministry in stone. that is, to group logically, all the various different activities that the government carries out on behalf of the people of the country. Once set, no portfolio will be moved from ministry to ministry, and if there is a cabinet reshuffle then only the Minister and his small retinue of 3-4 people will be moved. And if a new addition to the portfolio is required then associate it logically with the ministry that already has similar or related activities associated with it. Oh and to save even more money in the future, Government should purchase or build structures to house the ministries and stop paying so much money on rent alone, rent they currently have trouble paying.

This ensures that the work of the government continues undisturbed and that within a few days of catching up on his or her new duties they ministers can be back at work doing what is required of them. Of course I am only being miserable, so you can all ignore me.
